Resumo:
This study examines the impact of a teaching volleyball approach proposing a step-by step game forms development on students play performance. An entire 7th grade class composed of 12 girls and 13 boys (aged 12-15) from a northern Portugal public junior high school participated in a teaching experiment implemented during a 12-lesson unit. Program sought after technical efficiency and efficacy, as well as tactical adjustment and decision-making within simplified game play contexts.
The results indicated that the class as a whole made significant improvements in several measures of play performance either in technical or tactical domains. Girls and low skill level students seemed to take more benefit from the program than boys or high skill level students. The transition from a cooperative-oriented to a more competitive-oriented game play is likely to need much more time to attain significant effects.
